Children at one of Great Yarmouth's biggest primary schools will return to an exciting new £210,000 playground in September.
Builders are spending the summer installing the new facilities at Great Yarmouth Primary Academy in Dickens Avenue, which has 420 pupils from nursery through to 11 years old.
The dramatic makeover will see the creation of four play areas, with dozens of built-in activities and games.
As well as traditional climbing frames and playground markings, there will also be wigwams, dens, and palm trees as part of an island beach theme that reflects the school's location close to the seaside.
An outdoor classroom and theatre, story-telling areas, and interactive music, geography, and science boards throughout the new play area will help blend learning and play.
The substantial investment is being paid for by the Inspiration Trust, which converted the old Greenacre Primary into the Academy in September 2012.
Since then the school has seen rapid improvements in standards and behaviour, and been highlighted as a model of how to turn around a primary school by the Department for Education.
Principal Dr Craig Avieson said: 'We encourage our pupils to have high aspirations and it is only right we do everything we can to give them the best facilities possible.
'Play is an important part of a child's development and this new playground will take that to a new level, as well as helping us take learning outside of the classroom. I'm very excited to see the work taking place and can't wait to see our pupil's reactions when they get to use it all in September.'
The Inspiration Trust is a not for profit charity that operates 13 academies across Norfolk and Suffolk, including two new schools opening in September: Trafalgar College in Great Yarmouth, and Charles Darwin Primary in Norwich.
