Pupils flocked to a 'hidden' school library eager to plunder the newly-stocked shelves for their favourite stories.
Helped by a special guest - the mayor of Great Yarmouth Kerry Robinson-Payne - the wraps were finally off at St Mary and St Peter Catholic Primary School in Gorleston.
For the children it meant peeping through hazard tape and blacked-out windows to get their first glimpse of the new book area, created to promote a buzz around reading and containing all the drama and suspense of a good story.
English lead Sam Brackenbury said there were lots of audible gasps when the fruits of their library-loving labours were revealed on Tuesday.
The newly created space was a vast improvement on the previous area which was too small with a smaller selection of books.
Now there was a bright new area, soon to be emblazoned with unique pledges created by the children with the help of a visiting artist.
Mr Brackenbury said the richer collection of texts was already being seized upon with excitement, even drawing in children they didn't think would respond with enthusiasm.
He hailed the assistance of headteacher Victoria Long and Paula Bird, which helped to create the novel new space the whole school was proud of, allowing for whole class browsing and story-telling.
