A Caister couple are celebrating sixty years of married life together.

Marjorie, 79, and Alfred 'Alf' Edwards, 86, were married on September 22, 1957 in Buckinghamshire.

Marjorie remembers when she was 18 coming home from a club at the community centre and seeing Alf, 25, on his maroon Triumph speedtwin motorbike, who pulled over to speak to her.

From then on the couple courted and Alf completed his national service in Germany and spent his working life on the railways as a signalman.

When they got married and were given a black cat on their wedding day called Lucky.

They marked their diamond wedding with a family get together at the Bridge Inn in Acle last weekend.

They also enjoyed a trip away to Centre Parcs at Elveden.

Marjorie said the pair have had a good life together.

Asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, she said: 'He's put up with me and I've put up with him. It's give and take.'

They have four sons: David born in 1958, Colin born in 1960, Leslie born in 1962 and Graham born in 1966, who grew up in Slough in the 1960s and 70s.

After a life of hard work, with Alf's many years on the railways and Marjorie's raising of her sons and her work for Party Plan.

The couple, who live in Jack Plumber Way, Caister, fell in the love with the area when they came on family holidays, starting off at Bacton and moving down the coast to Caister.

'It was straight down from the caravan to the beach.'

Upon retirement, they made their dream of a life in Norfolk come true and they lived in Acle for seven years before moving to Caister.

They have seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild who enjoy their visits to the seaside.

Marjorie said: 'We're very happy here. Caister is a great place to be and Yarmouth is great place if you want a bit of excitement.

'We've got some great friends here.'

In 2010 Alf suffered a stroke and since then has been supported by Centre 81 and the Yarmouth Stroke Group run by Sue Casey.

The pair both enjoy painting in their spare time and Majorie is currently learning the ukelele which was a gift from Alf.
