Developer submits plans for 180 new homes in Mulbarton

Plans for a major expansion of Mulbarton have been submitted with proposals for 180 new homes on greenfield land.

A period of public consultation has been triggered after Welbeck Strategic Land put in the proposals for a 13.4ha area of agricultural land off Long Lane.

It comes after the developer held a public meeting in the village in September to display their proposals.

The outline application includes plans for a range of different sized homes and bungalows as well as two community allotment areas and open space.

In an application submitted to South Norfolk Council, agent Ed Hanson of Barton Willmore, said the proposals would help meet a five year land supply shortage identified by the Greater Norwich Development Partnership.

He added that Mulbarton is classed as a 'service village' and is a 'sustainable' location to accommodate more growth.

'The site is beyond the existing settlement boundary and is currently classified as greenfield. However, due to the topography, surrounding development and landscaping, it is not prominent in the wider landscape and residential development can be satisfactorily accommodated,' he said.
