The Mayor of Dereham has pledged to provide support for the town's two twinning groups during her year in office.

Mayor Hilary Bushell's first push to promote the groups saw her join members of the German and French Twinning Associations for a recent promotional event held in the town.

Dereham has been twinned with Ruthen in Germany since 1982 and with Caudebec-Les-Elbeuf in France since 2004. Regular exchanges have taken place each year since, most recently in May this year.

Mayor Bushell has also invited members from the twin towns to be present at her inaugural ceremony in July and officials and visitors from France are expected to take part in Dereham's annual 5k road race in August as well as at the town's act of Remembrance in November.
