There was plenty of clowning around when Hethersett Woodside Nursery and Infant School said goodbye to deputy headteacher Sara Johnston.

Mrs Johnston was dressed up in clown gear with face painting by the children and then took part with other members of staff in a special clowning session in front of the school's nursery.

In a programme that lent itself more to fun than skill, she ended with a custard pie in her face as a final reminder of her 11 years at the school, which has seen her working both in the nursery and then main school.

Afterwards she admitted that she would miss the Hethersett children.

'I feel that I have a great affinity with Hethersett and the area, having previously taught at Little Melton. I will certainly miss the children and their families, they are very special,' she said.

Mrs Johnson has been appointed headteacher at Chapel Break Infants School in Norwich, the school where she started her teaching career.

The Hethersett school also said farewell to long serving teaching assistant Judy Whiddett after 22 years at the school and teaching assistant Sally Morton on Friday.
