Simeon Jackson, Norwich city councillor for Mancroft ward, co-ordinated the event on Facebook after the UK voted to leave the EU.

'I was at the Norwich count and saw it all happening as it happened,' he said. 'At the end of all that I was feeling pretty depressed, as someone who was keen to stay in the EU.'

He said he could not sleep when he got home, and decided to organise the event to 'spread the love' after a campaign of 'hatred and fear'.

Around a dozen people attended the event near the bandstand and they wore yellow paper hearts.
