Shocking dash-cam footage has emerged of a crash in Sprowston which left four people requiring hospital treatment.
The footage was released by dash-cam manufacturer Nextbase and shows a Vauxhall Corsa careering into a Honda CR-V on Blue Boar Lane in July of last year.
Steven Jefferson, 60, of Old Catton, was driving the Honda and both he and his wife Helen, 54, suffered minor injuries.
The occupants of the Vauxhall Corsa had to be cut out of their vehicle and were taken to hospital with more serious injuries.
Mr Jefferson had bought the car only a few months prior to the crash and said there was nothing he could do to avoid the oncoming car.
'It happened so fast that it was impossible to take any avoiding action,' he said. 'We have no idea why this happened but things like this occur all the time on British roads – that's why I got a dash-cam.
'The front air bags and seat bags on my side went off but thankfully both my wife and I were able to walk out of the car with minor injuries.'
Luckily for the couple the crash happened just outside the Sprowston Sports & Social Club on Blue Boar Lane where many of the people there had first aid experience.
Since the crash the former Aviva worker has watched the footage back and said it is still unbelievable how quickly the whole thing unfolded.
'The lens on the front of the camera is actually a wide lense so it made the distance between the two cars look a lot wider than it actually was,' he said.
'I have shown the footage to friends and family and they were shocked at how fast it happened. 'One second we were driving and the next thing we heard one hell of a whack and I thought, 'Crikey, we have been hit.''
The police seized the dash-cam footage as part of their investigation. The driver of the Vauxhall surrendered their driving license and the police took no further action.
Mr Jefferson added: 'Thanks to the footage the car hire company agreed I was not at fault and so did my insurer.'
