The world premiere production of Terms of Endearment (heading for the bright lights of the West End) opens at the Cambridge Arts Theatre on Monday, September 24 (7.45pm) playing to Saturday, September 29, with performances nightly (7.45pm) and matinees on Thursday/Saturday (2.30pm).
This major new adaptation of the award-winning film of the same name stars former Dallas legend Linda Gray, who starred as Mrs Robinson in The Graduate both in the West End and on Broadway. She plays feisty widow Aurora Greenway while Suranne Jones (Karen McDonald in Coronation Street) plays her headstrong (and often pregnant) daughter Emma.
A heartfelt comedy drama, the scenario centres round Aurora who struggles to impose order on her wayward daughter's chaotic life while her own life takes an unexpectedly thrilling turn when she falls deeply in love for the first time with Garrett Breedlove, an astronaut played by John Bowe. However, he seems to be as much a cad as her daughter's husband, but when tragedy strikes the family is he revealed as a man with a heart of gold. This endearing story blends comedy and heart-rending drama.
