People will flock to Cromer on New Year's Day for the traditional fireworks display on the pier.

It is the 16th year of the fireworks, which started as a one-off millennium event but have turned into one of the major dates in the Norfolk events calendar - ushering in the New Year with a bang, and explosion of colour.

And once again there is a chance for photographers to win a top prize with their images of the spectacular 5pm display.

Display operator Clive Casburn said there would be about 400 fireworks producing 2,000 bursts of stars and special effects along the whole length of the pier - along with seven pyro water effects.

'With the wind off shore and the high tide at the display time, conditions could well be ideal,' he added.

Organisers are encouraging people to arrive early as the town gets busy with an estimated 8,000 visitors and parking can be at a premium.

Shops and cafes will be open along with all three town car parks will be open.

The annual photography competition will see the winning snapper picking up a Samsung 40' LED television worth £400 provided by sponsors Hughes Plus who have a store in the town.

Entrants should be aged 17 or over.
