A motorist who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another vehicle has described how he was "devastated" he dropped off.

James Leith, 55, had been driving a Ford Transit van on the A1066 at Bressingham, near Diss, when he fell asleep and veered into the path of a Land Rover vehicle.

No-one was hurt in the crash on November 13 last year, but the Land Rover vehicle was damaged.

The case was heard at Norwich Magistrates Court on Monday.

Leith, of Lincoln Street, Norwich, did not appear in person but pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention via the post.

Writing to the court, Leith said: “I’m devastated I dropped off on this occasion and apologise unreservedly.”

He was given nine points on his licence, ordered to pay a £100 fine, £50 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
