Five motorcyclists convicted of speeding at 140mph on the A47 will keep their licences for six months before a disqualification hearing can be held.
At 9.15am on August 6 last year, five bikers, aged between 21 and 51, were all caught by a police follow check riding at twice the speed limit at Trowse.
Sian Cooper, riding a Honda, Gavin Green, riding a BMW S1000RR, Jackson Harmer, riding an Aprilia RSV4, Kaz Pinfold, riding a Honda CBR 1000, and Martin Pinfold, riding a BMW S1000RR, were all summonsed to court after being clocked at 140mph in the 70mph limit.
Kaz Pinfold, 48, and Martin Pinfold, 51, both of Allendale Road in Caister-on-sea, submitted written guilty pleas at Norwich Magistrates Court yesterday.
Harmer, 34, and Cooper, 21, both of Bracecamp Close in Ormesby, did not enter a plea and had the case proved in their absence.
Green, 31, of Rushton Drive, Carlton Coleville, who also holds an HGV licence, entered a guilty plea and wrote a letter to the court to offer his 'sincere apologies'.
'I realise I am facing a considerable ban,' he said. 'My job as a mobile welding inspector relies on me having a licence. I do not generally drive in this manner and at that speed. I genuinely regret my actions and humbly accept my sentence.'
But all five will wait until June 18 to hear whether they will be disqualified from driving due to excessive speeds, as the next available hearing date is not for six months.
Magistrate Jim Agnew, sitting alone, said it was 'rather a long time to wait, but can't be helped'.
After the hearing, Chief Inspector Kris Barnard, head of the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing Unit, said: 'All too often officers have to deal with the results of drivers speeding, which can be devastating, with families and friends being left behind to pick up their lives after the event. One fatality on our roads is one too many.'
Police and Crime Commissioner Lorne Green said: 'To exceed the speed limit going at 140mph I can only conclude you have a death wish. They endanger the lives of others and put their own lives at great risk.
'No thrill they take from going such speeds is worth that extraordinary risk. It only takes a moment of inattention and at those speeds there is no opportunity to take remedial action. We all travel these roads and lives are put at risk through carelessness and disregard for others.'
Bridget Wall, from Downham Market, has campaigned for road safety since the death of her only son Adam, 24, in a crash on the A47 at Wisbech in November 2002.
She called the speeds of 140mph 'disgusting'.
'If they want to speed they should go to a race track, not on a public highway where there are innocent people,' she said. 'You can't bring them back - their life is taken and their family's life is ruined.'
Passat driver racing at 130mph
Driving a Volkswagen Passat, Michael Tilden was seen 'driving very aggressively' while appearing to race another car at speeds to up to 130mph at the A47 at Trowse.
The 52-year-old, of Mundesley Road, North Walsham, was convicted in his absence yesterday at Norwich Magistrates Court of driving without due care and attention on May 30 last year.
The court heard the defendants vehicle, along with another, was seen entering the A47 slip road Yarmouth bound, crossing between lanes at high speed.
Both vehicles appeared to be racing each other and were passing other vehicles at speeds of up to 130mph.
Both vehicles were seen to be driving very aggressively and without due care for others.
Tilden, who currently holds a clean licence, will appear before Norwich Magistrates Court for a disqualification hearing on June 18.
