Two men were arrested in Thetford last night after a chase on the A11 which reached speeds of up to 128mph.

The drama began when Suffolk roads and armed policing officers spotted a Black BMW X5 heading north-bound on the A11 at Thetford at around 7.30pm.

The car was suspected to have been involved in an incident in Norwich on February 16, when it failed to stop for two special constables. Police say on that occassion, the subject vehicle rammed a police vehicle and drove dangerously before escaping.

The BMW failed to stop for officers last night and drove at speeds in excess of 128mph on the A11 before heading towards Thetford town where it continued to drive dangerously.

The vehicle was located in Thetford and two men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of offences including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, no insurance, no licence and drug driving. The vehicle was seized by police for further examination.

The two men were taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre where they remain in custody whilst enquiries are ongoing.

One of the men, who was driving the vehicle, gave a positive drug wipe for cocaine.

An officer on the roads and armed policing team tweeted: 'The subject vehicle has been seized for a [forensic] examination.

'Fortunately no injuries to the @NorfolkSpecials following the incident last week and only minor damage to the police vehicle.'
