A 29 year-old man who acted as a courier to bring heroin from London with a street value of more than £10,000 to sell on the streets of Norwich has been jailed for 28 months.

Chris Youell, prosecuting at Norwich Crown Court, said that Dale Ebanks was stopped on the All near Besthorpe, on August 11 last year, and the drugs were discovered in the hire car he was driving.

Mr Youell said that Ebanks claimed he was acting as a courier to pay off a drugs debt of £2000.

Ebanks of Creswick Road, London, admitted possessing Class A with intent to supply.

Philip Farr, for Ebanks, said that he was a typical of the type of young man recruited as a drugs runner.

He said that those behind the operation rarely put their head above the parapet.

'He is a young man of some naïvety. He has acted foolishly and to some extent with the coercion of others.'

He said that Ebanks came from a good supportive family.

Sentencing him, Judge Nicholas Coleman said it was a 'very stupid thing' to do.
