Two men were taken to hospital after separate stabbing incidents in Lowestoft.

Emergency services were called to Station Square, outside the Joseph Conrad pub, at 5.20pm on Friday night to reports a man had been attacked with a knife.

Police said there was an altercation between two men which saw one suffer cuts to his head and neck.

He was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston but has since left.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is being questioned by police.

And at 11.40pm on Friday night they were called to a second incident on High Street.

Police said a man in his 40s was taken to hospital after suffering a puncture wound to the chest.

They said they were questioning a man in his 40s in connection with the incident.

It is understood the men are known to each other.

In relation to the Station Square incident a Suffolk police spokesman said: 'Officers were called shortly before 5.20pm on Friday, following reports of an altercation between two men, who are believed to be known to each other, outside The Joseph Conrad pub in Station Square, Lowestoft.

'One man reported being attacked with a knife and received cuts to his head and neck, he was taken to James Paget Hospital by ambulance and has since been released.

'A second 46-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault and theft and he was taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

'Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact Suffolk police on 101 quoting CAD reference 297 of Friday 26 October.'

In relation to the High Street incident a Suffolk police spokesman said: 'A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Lowestoft last night.

'Police were called to the High Street on Friday at 11.41pm, following reports of an injured man who had suffered a stab wound to the chest area.

The man, aged in his 40s, was taken by ambulance to the James Paget Hospital for treatment, his condition is described as serious but stable.

'A second man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been taken to Great Yarmouth police investigation centre, where he remains for questioning.

'The people involved are believed to be known to each other.

'Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, who may have seen or heard anything relating to this incident to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 37/62081/18.
