A local businessman has been left 'shocked and upset' by an attack on his restaurant in the city centre.

Paolo Duraj, the owner of Paolo's Restaurant on St Giles' Street in Norwich, said: 'I want to meet the man who did this and ask him: 'Why?''

The restaurant was attacked with red paint in the early hours of Thursday and then Friday night.

Mr Duraj, 40, said: 'It makes me worry about the business, this is going to cost us about £800 to fix.'

Staff at the restaurant refused service to a man on Tuesday night. Mr Duraj said the same man returned later and threatened staff.

On Thursday night the restaurant was sprayed with paint and on Friday morning red paint had been sprayed on the building. Mr Duraj said that a man had used racist language towards his staff members on Tuesday night and believed any attack was racially motivated.

'My staff are shocked and upset by this encounter, especially the waiter who had to confront the man initially.'

Mr Duraj has lived in Norwich for 20 years, after moving from Albania, and has a wife and one child.

'This is my family's home. I know I'm a 'foreigner' but after 20 years this is not what you expect to happen,'

'We love Norwich. Things like this shouldn't happen in England, this is not a third world country,' he said.

A man was arrested and bailed on Friday, February 20 in connection with the incident.
