King's Lynn Festival welcomed back one of its favourites on Monday when world-famous pianist and festival vice-president, Freddy Kempf, gave a recital in the Minster.

The large audience gave a very enthusiastic reception to Kempf's performance of works by Schumann, Chopin and Tchaikovsky.

Festival artistic director, Ambrose Miller, described the recital as 'an absolutely stunning performance of a fascinating repertoire' including rarely played pieces by Schumann and Tchaikovsky's The Seasons which, he said, demonstrated that he was a keyboard composer as well as a creator of large-scale works.

Kempf returned the compliment to Lynn Festival, saying how much he enjoyed playing in the Minster church.

After the performance he drove to Heathrow to catch a plane back to Munich in time for the birthday of one of his children.

Kempf was born in Croydon in 1977, was a child virtuoso and won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1992.
