MPs are set to debate a bungled Norfolk police investigation into an alleged 2.5m fraud at a private psychiatric hospital.

Andrew Breeze and Dominic Wilson, both from Norwich, have been fighting to clear their names after being exonerated when their trial at Ipswich Crown Court collapsed when the prosecution could not offer sufficient evidence.

Since then the Crown Prosecution Service has admitted that charges against the two former directors of Cawston Park hospital, near Aylsham, should never have reached court.

Mr Breeze lost his entire investment, valued at over 9m by the police, as well as the thriving, well-regarded Cawston Park Hospital which is now closed.

Norwich North MP Chloe Smith and north Norfolk MP Norman Lamb have campaigned for justice from the Crown Prosecution Service, the NHS Counter Fraud Service, Norfolk police and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Wycombe MP Steve Baker, who represents Mr Breeze's brother Paul, has now joined them in the campaign and has secured a short debate in the House of Commons with the Attorney General tonight.

Mr Breeze said: 'I am delighted that after years of being stone walled and ignored by the government agencies concerned I am at last being taken seriously at the highest level.

'I am, and always was, totally innocent of any wrongdoing and I believe that the malicious allegations that were made against my hospital were investigated in a bungled and incompetent manner by both the NHS Counter Fraud Service and Norfolk Constabulary. It was nothing short of reckless.'

Miss Smith said: 'We all wholeheartedly want Mr Breeze's name cleared fully.'

Mr Lamb added: 'Very serious questions remain unanswered following this prosecution.'
