A man in his 20s was taken to hospital on Sunday after concerns a corrosive liquid had been thrown over him during a suspected assault.

While enquiries revealed the substance was a mixture of cold water and corn flour, police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident.

It occurred around 11.45pm on Sunday at the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge in Norwich.

A police spokesman said: 'The victim, a man in his 20s, was standing at the Novi Sad Friendship bridge at approximately 11.45pm when he was approached by a man who threw some cold water over him before verbally abusing him.

'The victim then ran from the scene and alerted police. He was taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

'There were concerns that the liquid may have been corrosive, however tests established it was a mixture of water and corn flour.'

Police are investigating the attack and are currently treating it as assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
