Firefighters took several hours to put out a blaze in a grain silo today.

An appliance and Water Carrier from Fakenham, along with two appliances from Kings Lynn, one from Terrington and one from Wisbech attended the incident at Silt Road, Terrington St Clement.

Crews used hose reel jets to tackle the fire, in a 30m high silo ciontaining 3m of grain.

A spokesman said their job was made harder by the fact they could not get inside the structure to fight the flames for safety reasons.

The alarm was raised just before 8am. Damping down was finished by 1.15pm, but one appliance has remained on the scene this afternoon to check that the grain inside did not re-ignite.
