Coronation Street star Les Dennis was back in north-west Norfolk to open a new-look Thornham Deli.

Now living in Manchester, Mr Dennis owned a holiday home in the area for many years, and the all-round entertainer has spent significant time here for both business and pleasure.

So he was only too happy to join Jeanne Whittome and Janie Thompson, the owners of the new-look Thornham Deli, and the team in celebrating the opening of its new extension.

The deli, which is on the A149 coast road on the outskirts of the village, has been extended and refurbished to create a new lifestyle shop, patisserie, bakery, and larger delicatessen.

It will offer a selection of samphire products made onsite and homeware, kitchen and garden accessories, and will also sell clothes.

Mr Dennis, who is still probably best known for hosting ITV game show Family Fortunes for 15 years, said: 'The new-look Thornham Deli looks amazing and I love what Jeanne and Janie have done with it. I know it will do well and I'm pleased that Jeanne asked me along to officially open the shop for her. I love north Norfolk, and it is really good to be back.'

The comedian and former TV presenter, who plays Michael Rodwell in the soap, was staying with his family in the area, as a guest of his good friend, Mrs Whittome, at No 33, her new luxury boutique B&B in Hunstanton.

Mrs Whittome, who previously owned and ran the Hoste Arms in Burnham Market, with her late husband Paul, said: 'I am thrilled with how things have turned out and think that everyone will enjoy the gifts we have sourced and wonderful food that we serve. For me it is all about having fun and putting something back into the community.'

Mrs Thompson added that, as part of the celebrations, customers will receive a complimentary glass of mulled wine today.
