A date has now been set to discuss planning applications for a crematorium and woodland burial site in north Norfolk.

Council planners are to look at the Cromer crematorium and woodland burial site applications at the Thursday June 12 meeting of North Norfolk District Council's development committee.

The crematorium application was due to be decided earlier this month but members of the development committee decided that there were too many objections to the scheme, which their officers had recommended for approval, and wanted to postpone the debate until a later date.

Developers Westerleigh want to build the facility, with a 90-seat chapel, on a site to the north of Cromer Cemetery on Holt Road.

But more than 460 people, as well as the National Trust, have objected to the proposal, primarily due to its location in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The application for a burial ground at Holt Road/Tower Road in Aylmerton was given delegated approval by the development committee in April last year subject to a number of conditions. These included there being including no new objections once a woodland management plan was published, a tree survey be undertaken and heritage statement given over amongst other things.

Since then NNDC has received the heritage statement but the other required information remains outstanding.
