A controlled explosion took place on the Norfolk coast this morning, after a dog walker discovered an unexploded Second World War mortar.

The alarm was raised early this morning at Winterton dunes, and the RAF Wittering team spent two hours on the scene.

The mortar is reported to have been heavily corroded, but a controlled explosion was carried out to be safe.

There were no ongoing public safety concerns.
