Residents should be consulted about the future of three pieces of green space in Dereham that Breckland Council wants to sell off, town councillors have said.

The parcels of land at Eaton Gardens, Dale Road and Colin Mclean Road are in the latest tranche of Breckland Council's Active Land Management programme to raise money from surplus pieces of land it owns.

Dereham town councillors considered their response to the proposals, which they believe would lead to new housing being built, at a meeting last night.

Linda Goreham said: 'What about the people who have been living here all those years looking out on that green land? I say no, it's not for development.'

Former mayor Michael Fanthorpe said: 'We feel the residents in the area should be fully consulted on this proposed development.'

The councillors had strong concerns about the plans for Dale Road and Colin Mclean Road, but had less of a problem with those for Eaton Gardens.
