Charities and voluntary organisations in West Norfolk wanting to attract new members are being encouraged to sign up for a community fair in Downham Market.

The annual event will return to the town hall in October and give volunteer groups and local charities the chance to come together under one roof to tell people what is going on in the area.

The event, which is organised and run by Downham Market Town Council, has been running for five years and organisers say this year is expected to be the biggest yet. Last year more than 500 people went to the popular event to have a look around the 38 stalls at the town hall.

Kerry Heffernan, the town council's events co-ordinator, said: 'Despite all the current budgetary restrictions, Downham Market Town Council will still be providing a Community Fair this year for charities and support groups.

'This completely free event is an ideal opportunity for local voluntary organisations to fundraise, raise awareness, attract new volunteers and simply meet other like-minded people.'

She added: 'Due to the popularity of this event, spaces are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.'

The Community Fair takes place on Saturday, October 22 and will run from 10am until 2pm.
