A coalition of campaigners showed solidarity with the Heathrow protestors today by taking part in an hour-long demonstration at Norwich International Airport.

The small group, which included representatives of Friends of the Earth, Norwich Campaign Against Climate Change, Norwich and Norfolk Green Parties, as well as nearby residents, handed out leaflets to passengers departing from the airport.

“We are highlighting the 37pc increase in passenger numbers and the increased CO2 pollution and noise pollution,” said Green councillor Rupert Read.

“We are informing people about alternative travel arrangements available to visit Europe - train options are convenient and provide much more time for relaxation during the trip.

“We have once chance, at this moment in history, to do the right thing and press for political change that will stop aviation expansion and air travel from terminally undermining our chances of keeping the earth's climate long-term habitable for humans.”
