Fans of two classic British motorcycle makers rode their prized machines into north Norfolk.

Members of the AJS and Matchless Owners Club biked down the streets of Cromer to park their bikes on the promenade for all to see.

It was part of an annual alternative rally which happens every October, following international and national rallies earlier in the year.

The bikers camped out in the grounds of the Sutton Staithe Hotel. President Roy Bellet, 59, said: 'We began this club in 1952. It started with a hobby and slowly grew into a club that has 3,500 members.'

One of the organisers of the event and ex-head teacher of North Walsham High School, David Speck, 64, has enjoyed motorbikes for many years.

He said: 'My father always used to ride so I have always had an interest, I think it is in your blood.

'I love the fact that you get to meet so many lovely people.'

The clubs bikes consist of the AJS bike from Wolverhampton and named after the creator himself A J Stevens and the Matchless bike from Plumstead in London.

Members hail from all over the world and rallies can take place anywhere.

Mr Speck said: 'I have been to so many places with the club, such as Poland, Switzerland and Italy.'

Farthest flung rally visitor was William Tweed, 81 from New Zealand, who said: 'I first joined the club in 2010 and I have been to a rally every year since.

'I have been to Ireland, Kent, Germany and now here, they have really looked after me and it's great to meet new people.'

Mr Speck said: 'It was a great turn out and we have had lots of people stopping to look and ask us questions, it has been brilliant.'
