Running 100 miles in a demanding challenge for anyone.

A Swaffham fund-raiser is attempting it in flip flops.

Brendan Holmes, 34, is pounding the streets of Norfolk in his flip flops to raise money for Scotty's Little Soldiers, of which he is a trustee.

Founded by war widow Nikki Scott in 2010, Scotty's Little Soldiers supports children across the UK who have lost a parent while serving in the British Armed Forces.

The charity was set up following the death of Nikki's husband and father to her two children, Corporal Lee Scott in Afghanistan in 2009.

Mr Holmes aims to complete 100 miles by the end of the month. The challenge is part of Scotty's Month of May Marathon initiative, where fund-raisers are encouraged to run or walk 26.2 miles throughout May to raise funds for the King's Lynn-based charity.

Mr Holmes has been a big supporter of the charity since its inception and, over the years, has taken part in a number of fund-raising events including a 50 mile walk in two days, again in flip flops.

He said: 'I have always been involved with Scotty's from the very start. Nikki and I are good friends and it seemed like a natural step to become a trustee. I have seen first-hand what Nikki and Scotty's members have gone through and the effect the death of a parent has on the entire family.

'The work Scotty's does has a huge benefit to its members. It gives the children a real sense of community and lets them know there are people out there who care.'

The method in which a fundraiser completes their Month of May Marathon can vary from a short walk each day to a long weekend run. Any age, size or fitness level can take part and it is free to sign up to.
