Sam Lister, from Great Ellingham, is helping to organise the December 2 event, which will raise money for the Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Trust.

Mrs Lister said TV presenter and actress Mary-Louise Chandler would host the ball, and there would also be appearances by Amrick Channa of the X Factor, Paul Manners from Britain's Got Talent, Andrew Stone from Sky1's Pineapple Dance Studios and Celebrity Big Brother, singer Arianna Morgan and award-winning London magician John Holdis.

Sam Lister and her husband Paul have an adopted son, eight-year-old Lee, who lives with FASD, and she said she knew first-hand how important it was to raise money for the charity.

She said: 'From the age of five weeks, we fostered Lee before adopting him.

'By five months, some things were not right. He couldn't put any weight on his legs and he had no control over his head, he was 'floppy'. Many tests had been carried out by specialists and the first diagnosis that we were given was that he wouldn't be able to walk and would probably not be able to talk.

'But Lee can now walk and talk.

'He has always been one determined boy. His contagious, cheeky smile gets him noticed wherever he goes.

'We love him so much and will push him to reach his potential, whatever that may be.'

Mrs Lister said she hoped the ball, to take place at Norwich's Holiday Inn hotel, would be able to make a difference to children living with the condition.

She said: 'More needs to be done, this is why we want to raise as much money for the FASD Trust as we can.

'They travel all over the country to train so many people - teachers, social workers, police, foster carers, doctors, etcetera.

'More and more children are being diagnosed with FASD each year.

n The ball will run from 6.30pm to 1am and include some drinks, a three-course meal, entertainment, an auction and a raffle.

n Tickets are £55 per person from www.fasdtrust.co.uk/shop/tickets or 01865 249771
