Community groups across south Norfolk can apply for money to stage 'Silver Sunday' events for older people.

Grants of up to £200 are being offered by South Norfolk Council for events that raise awareness of the services and support available to older people between October 1 and October 8.

Yvonne Bendle, councillor, said this would be third year the council had supported Silver Sunday.

She said: 'This is the third year that the Council has supported Silver Sunday. We have seen some fantastic events with fun and free activities designed to help older people get out and about, try new things and meet new people.

'Silver Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate the value and knowledge that older people contribute to our communities while helping to combat loneliness and isolation.'

The grants are open to south Norfolk-based groups, town and parish councils, and are to cover the costs of staging and promoting the events or activities.

For example, these could include the cost of performers, venue hire and promotional literature.

Applications close on September 15 and can be made at online www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/community-grants.
