A village hall which is central to community life has been given a grant worth thousands of pounds to help towards the cost of new facilities.
The Carbrooke Coronation Hall is the only centre in the parish which provides a range of activities and services for residents.
A pre-school is held there five days a week, and it is also home to a dancing club, kickboxing sessions, a vibrant history club, a weekly coffee morning and is a meeting place for the parish council.
A well attended bar is also held every Friday and it used for parties and wakes.
However the village hall's trustees have said the toilet and kitchen facilities are not fit for purpose and need to be updated.
To help towards the cost of the renovation works, which are believed to be around £48,000, the hall's committee has received a grant of £14,400 from Breckland Council.
Trustee Debbie Muller said: 'It is good news for us. We believe the look of the kitchen and toilets has held the hall back.
'This will enable us to move to getting more social events. We do a fair few but if we can make things more up-to-date and attractive, it will help.'
Mrs Muller said the idea for improving the village hall has been around for 10 years. Built to mark the Queen's coronation part of the building is a former logging cabin.
The toilets are described as 'unpleasant to use' and the kitchen is in a 'very poor state of repair'.
A new entrance hall will be created with male and female toilets plus the addition of a disabled facility. A room which is currently used for meetings will be converted into a new kitchen with new equipment.
The committee has recently received £2,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. So far more than £15,000 has been raised by the trustees for the works through community events and fundraising.
Mrs Muller added: 'We are thrilled. Over the years you get disheartened when you don't get grants and you just struggle on.
'It will make a real difference.'
It is hoped the work will start either at the end of this year or the start of next year.
Mrs Muller is hopeful it will lead to other parts of the hall being improved, including the roof and furniture.
