A car fire closed Cromer Road in North Walsham this afternoon after the driver had a 'lucky escape'..
The incident took place around 5pm this afternoon, and the road was closed between the Bradfield Road junction and the Greens Road junction.
Traffic was diverted along Bradfield Road, where 81-year-old Jim Elsey saw the incident.
'The chap in the car said he had been driving along, saw smoke coming out of the car and got out really quickly,' he said. 'He had a very lucky escape, and it was a good job there was nobody else in the car.'
One fire crew from Mundsley attended the scene and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fames.
