The King's Head Meadow Playscape Group have nominated the green space for the UK's Best Park Award.
The nomination is the latest development in a dispute that has been rumbling on since the playscape was installed in 2014.
Several neighbouring families initially complained that the installation had brought noise and anti-social behaviour to the area, and consequently, councillors ruled that it should be removed.
However, the demolition was abandoned after protestors staged a sit-in. Since then, councillors attempts to mediate the dispute have gone around and around, with a remodelled play park proposal voted down by seven to six. Dave Roberts, one of the founding members of the KHM Playscape Group, hopes the award nomination will help their cause. He said: 'I encourage everyone who loves this park to vote and show councillors how many people actively support this green space.'
