A Charolais cow with an enviable competition pedigree was judged the best overall beef animal at the Royal Norfolk Show – its fourth supreme success this year.

The show's supreme beef champion was Jocasta, from the Wissington Charolais herd in Colchester, owned by John and Jenny Rix. The two-year-old is in calf and was praised for her size and correctness by the judges.

Herd manager Darren Knox said the cow had already won supreme titles at the South Suffolk, Hadleigh and South of England Shows, and was a breed champion at the Royal Highland Show last week.

'We are just delighted with the way she has performed all year,' he said. 'You just don't come across something of this quality every day. They are very hard to breed, and you can spend years trying to get this quality.'

Assistant stockman Albert Woollard said owners John and Jenny Rix were thrilled with Jocasta's latest success at the Norfolk Showground.

'They were nervous when the results were coming in but they were over the moon,' he said.
