Business entrepreneurs will be in Norwich next week to help young people in Norfolk plan their next career move.

The Get Ready event, organised by Norfolk County Council, takes centre stage at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library for three consecutive Wednesday afternoons, from next week. It will offer young people aged between 16 and 19 and not in employment, education or training, practical help and advice on starting a business, finding a job or joining a training course.

The first workshop, Be Your Own Boss on Wednesday, August 1, will give young people the opportunity to chat informally to business men and women, find out how they started their business, pick up some helpful tips on being self-employed or running a business as well as find out what financial support may be available.

Business mentors, including representatives from The Princes Trust and the Start Up Lounge at City College Norwich will also be on hand to offer advice. The informal session will be held just inside the library, near the sound and vision section.

Application Station on August 8, will focus on helping young people to complete application forms for work, training or education. The latest apprenticeship vacancies will also be available on the day, as well as advice on registering on www.apprenticeships.org.uk.

The final session, Interview Skills on August 15 will focus on helping young people to sell themselves in interviews to secure a job or win a place on an apprenticeship or a training scheme.

Each workshop runs from 4pm to 5pm. Spaces are limited for the events on August 8 and 15, so young people are advised to book in advance by calling Charlotte Creed on 01603 774781 or by email at charlotte.creed@norfolk.gov.uk.

Young people, aged between 16 and 19 and not in employment, education or training can also find information and advice on finding and applying for jobs, writing CVs, preparing for interviews and making work or training plans at the weekly Job Match! drop in sessions at the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library. Job Match! runs from 3pm to 5pm every Thursday and from noon until 3pm on the first and third Saturdays of every month. Text 07717 867813 for more information.
