A steward was left shaken, but unharmed following an armed robbery at a Royal British Legion club in the early hours of this morning .

Suffolk Police have launched an investigation following the incident that happened at about 1.50am at the club, in High Street, Lakenheath.

The club steward was locking up when he was approached by two men wearing balaclavas, who threatened him with a firearm and a wooden stave.

The robbers stole an undisclosed quantity of cash from the safe before making off on foot through a hole in the fence in the direction of the river.

Officers are keen to trace the drivers of two silver vehicles that were seen in the Lakenheath area around the time of the robbery. Anyone with information is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 01473 613500.
