Yesterday's by-election was prompted by the resignation of long-standing Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Mack.
The Lib Dems did not field a candidate and just 396 of the ward's 1,951 voters turned out to the polls.
UKIP's Ashley Collins won, with 179 votes. Conservative John Dobson came second, with 115, while Labour's Emilia Rust polled 99 votes. For full story, see tomorrow's EDP.
