A military museum, near Wymondham, will be holding an open day next week to mark 70 years since the 'friendly invasion' of American forces in Norfolk.
The 389th Bomb Group Memorial Museum at Hethel will be open between 10am and 4pm on Sunday, June 10. There will be World War Two displays, wartime and classic vehicles, and a variety of stalls and refreshments. Admission is free, but there will be a �2 charge for cars.
The buildings which house the museum, including the chapel, formed part of the base from which B24 Liberators of the 389th Bomb Group of the Second Air Division United States 8th Army Air Force flew many missions over Germany and occupied Europe. More funds are needed to display further exhibits and Fred Squires and his team work hard to maintain the museum and keep alive the memory of the brave members of the bomb group.
To get to the museum from the A11 Wymondham bypass, take the exit signed Mulbarton and Lotus Cars. Follow the signs for Lotus Cars and turn left into Potash Lane. Go past the Lotus Car factory gates to where the road is closed. A farm entrance is on the right and go through it, following the signs to the exhibition. For any queries, call 01953 607147.
