A musical extravaganza commemorating the First World War is set to take concert-goers on an emotional journey.

Last Night of the Blickling Proms is taking place on Saturday, August 9, under the charge of Rod Dunk, one of Britain's most versatile conductors.

The first half of the programme will include waltz music reflecting the pre-war mood and classic songs from the music halls and sing-songs held in pubs such as Oh what a lovely War, Keep the home fires burning and Pack up your troubles, alongside work from Italian composer Puccini. There will also be theme tune music from the film Out of Africa which was set during the war.

The music will be accompanied by a flyover by the Grace Spitfire, which will fly across Blickling at exactly 8.03pm.

The second half will begin with the emotionally-charged War Horse anthem and an appearance by Augustus, who played the horse Joey in the film. There will also be a reflective one minute's silence, songs from forces sweetheart Marie Lloyd, and great British favourites, including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.

Concert goers can take their own picnics and song sheets will be provided. Tickets are selling fast but are still currently available (£33 in advance or £36 on the gate) online at www.revival-productions.co.uk or call the box 01263 734711.
