Annual gathering has rasied more than 80,000 for charity

Motorbikes of all shapes, sizes and ages will be descending on a village near Downham Market over August Bank Holiday weekend.

The 23rd annual Fenman rally is held in Wimobtsham and has raised more than 80,000 over the years for local charities.

Last year's event saw more than 180 bikes on show and raised more than 7,500 as bikers and enthusiasts arrived at the village green.

Every famous old name, from BSA and Norton to Vincent and Triumph will be on display on Monday, August 29.

There are a range classes for pre-1975 models and another for modern classics.

Hundreds more bikes arrive in the village on the day as it is one of the most popular rallies in the area.

There will also be an auto jumble and variety of trade stands along with refreshments and charities.

Bike entry and admission is 3 and the show opens to visitors at 11am.

The rally came about after a group of local enthusiasts met in the village pub in the spring of 1989.

While discussing plans for the summer it soon became clear that on the August Bank Holiday there were no local events planned.

The group decided to organise a small gathering, for other enthusiasts to enjoy and the rally has gone from strength-to-strength.

The Fenman name was adotped for the Fenland area of the village.

The logo, which depicts a farm-hand complete with smock, floppy hat and pitch fork, was chosen as being indicative of the agricultural nature of the area.
