A family-run bed firm has been celebrating the official opening of its new showroom on the Sandringham estate in west Norfolk.

The Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co was set up by Amanda and Stephen Oldfield 11 years ago.

The couple started off at a small industrial unit, near Hunstanton, supplying a leading high street retailer.

They moved to Heacham, then onto Dersingham, shortly followed by residence at a 3000sq ft premises in a converted dairy in Harpley, near Fakenham.

And now, following a year's renovation and decoration, they have settled in Shernborne.

Based at the small hamlet's previously closed village social club, and occupying the adjoining 1700s cottage, the company sells hand-crafted Norfolk iron, brass and nickel beds.

Youngest son Harry Thompson, marketing director, said: 'It's taken a year to get right, but now we can showcase our lifetime guaranteed beds, in a range of beautiful settings.

'When planning our showroom, we wanted to ensure we supported local businesses and formed a small co-operation.

'Our 1700s cottage has been styled by interior designer Lisa Dawson, of Lisa Dawson Interiors of Aylsham, with high quality upholstered furniture supplied by our friends Melissa and Leigh, of Dove Workshop, Downham Market.'

Amanda Oldfield added: 'When taking on this project, we realised the need to keep the village involved and give a little back to the wider community.

'From September 25, we shall be a local stopping point for the Dersingham Mobile Library, helping bring a gathering point to Shernborne and surrounding villages.'

The official opening was carried out by North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham, who praised the company for going from strength to strength. He also highlighted the need to support local businesses and the rural farmers.
