A colourful beach hut project, which aims to bring a beach theme to a Wymondham care home, was officially opened last week.

The initiative at Windmill House Residential Care Home, in Browick Road, was undertaken by The Friends of Windmill House who have been formed to support the home, its residents and staff.

The opening was attended by residents, their families and friends, members of staff, together with organisations and individuals who had made financial contributions together with donations of seaside items.

Home manager Liz Fleming said: 'This is an absolutely brilliant facility and we are extremely lucky to have it for the benefit and enjoyment of our residents. As many suffer from dementia and Alzheimers they will be able to recall and experience bygone days at the beach with their families. I am most grateful to all those that have supported this exciting scheme and the work carried out by volunteers.'

The official opening was performed by Adrian Abbotts, business development manager of Ridgeons builders merchants of Rocklands, who generously donated the shed.

Martin Wynne, chairman of The Friends of Windmill House, added: 'This scheme was first suggested by Tony Vale of Wymondham Activities and we are most grateful to Ridgeons. Jax Burgoyne from Norwich painted a large seaside picture forming a back drop to the beach scene. In addition I must pay tribute and thank all those who have helped, donated items and participated in various ways.'
