Five crews spent the early hours of this morning tackling a blaze at a barn near Salters Lode.

The fire at the 50m by 50m agricultural building, which was used to store grain and diesel, started shortly before 1.30am and firefighters were at the scene until just after 6.30am.

Three fire crews, one from Downham Market and two from King's Lynn, went to deal with the fire initially, before crews from Dereham and Methwold took over.

As well as extinguishing the fire, crews also made sure two nearby propane gas tanks were made safe by keeping them cool.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that the barn was on the same road as the area's war memorial, and that some firefighters would return to the scene at about 9am to check on the situation.
