A Norwich band hopes its new football song Bring It On will lift the spirits of Canaries fans during the play-off promotion push.

The song, described as an 'homage to all the Norwich fans', was written and recorded by singer-songwriter trio Rain Valley People.

Lead singer and guitarist Alick Letort, 58, said that they decided to write the track as they felt that the current state of football songs was 'dire'.

'I work with lots of people who have season tickets and are Norwich-mad, so I thought we would write a song,' added Mr Letort, who is a teacher at Acle Academy. 'Off I went and they loved it.'

Mr Letort, of Horsham St Faith, said he hoped the acoustic song - a celebration of fans' loyalty at grey away days across the country - could be played over the tannoy at Carrow Road.

'It would be a good boost for the fans,' he said. 'I'm rooting for Norwich as it's my home town.

'It doesn't look too good at the moment.

'I just want to put the song out there and see what happens.'

The band was formed last year, after Mr Letort placed an advert online looking for other local musicians.

He was joined by bassist Tony Friel, of Aylsham, and percussionist Heg, who plays the cajon drum and also performs in Norwich Samba Band.

The trio cut their teeth as a band by playing open mic nights, but within months of forming they supported Sophie Ellis-Bextor in front of 700 people at the Waterfront.

They have also played the UEA twice, gigged at live music pubs including the Birdcage and the Brickmakers and been played on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Lyricist Peter Hill helped to write Bring It On, and Mr Letort said it was a very politically-correct tribute to football supporters.

'It's about when, on a Saturday morning, you get the papers and look at the back pages first,' he said. 'And it's about women fans as much as men.

'They can roar as much, and that's what it's all about.'

Mr Letort also plays in a band called All Mighty Whispers.

The next Rain Valley People gig is at the Rumsey Wells pub on May 21, and they will also play at the Dubs at the Hall festival in Holt in July.
