People are being invited to get involved in an outdoor theatre production about the Kett's Rebellion this summer.

Norwich-based theatre company The Common Lot plans to present 1549: The Story of Kett's Rebellion and is looking for a cast of about 50 as well as people to help behind the scenes. There are open auditions at Norwich Arts Centre this Sunday.

Simon Floyd, who has written the show with Karl Minns and will direct it with Duncan Joseph, said: 'We're not looking for experience - just enthusiasm and commitment for what promises to be a lot of fun. We've a great script, a brilliant production team and we're looking forward to giving Norwich one of its greatest stories this summer.'

The show, which will tell the story of how in 16th century Norwich Robert Kett led a rebellion of the common people, will be performed across the city. Opening at Heigham Park on June 24, the free outdoor spectacle will tour city venues and form part of the Lord Mayor's Celebration.

The Common Lot – which previously performed Boudicca: The Pantomime and is involved in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream with the Royal Shakespeare Company – performed the story of the Kett's Rebellion in 1999, but Mr Floyd said this would be a new production. People aged 14 and over can get involved. The open auditions are at Norwich Arts Centre from 1pm until 5pm on Sunday. For more, visit www.thecommonlot.org
