Attleborough forest school to host youth festival with charity cash raised by former mayor

Nurture by Nature Forest School, which is based at Attleborough Wood on Deopham Road, hopes to run the family-friendly day at the end of August.

It will be funded by £1,000 raised by former Attleborough mayor Sam Taylor, who, last month, shaved off her 24-inch locks for charity and donated her leftover mayor's fund in memory of her son Ryan, who died aged 21 in November 2013.

Hannah Burns, forest school founder, said they initially hoped to use the cash to install a much-needed phone line, but decided to organise a fitting tribute to Ryan.

'We are planning a real family festival in the day with all sorts of family activities,' she said. 'Our woodwork area will be open, there will be archery and craft sessions and our pizza parlour will be up and running.'

And with music planned for the evening, they are encouraging local acts and comedians to get in touch.

'We'd love to hear from anyone local who would like to contribute, whether it's music, stand-up or craft stalls,' Mrs Burns said. 'It would be brilliant to have people there who can inspire some of the young people and point them in the right direction.'

Money raised from the festival, which will be held on Saturday, August 27, will be put towards installing the phone line.

Mrs Burns said: 'Ideally we need to raise about £1,500, then it will go in. At the moment we rely on mobile signal and it's becoming a struggle. It was fine when it was just me here, but we are a rapidly growing business now.'

The forest school provides educational programmes and activities in the six-acre Attleborough Wood.
