A car and bus collided at around 11.45am on Broadway in the town centre, forcing the bus into the building.

Police, fire crews, ambulance and air ambulance were all called to the scene.

Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to rescue two casualties from the car. A further 12 casualties described as 'walking wounded' were treated by the ambulance service at a nearby triage centre.

Seven patients have been taken to Peterborough City Hospital, two patients have gone to a nearby minor injuries unit, and four have been assessed but do not need any further treatment.

Station Commander Jamie Johnson said: 'The emergency services have worked extremely well together to successfully rescue and treat casualties.

'Severe damage has also been caused to a building as a result of the collision.'

A structural engineer will assess the damage to the building and a gas engineer isolated the mains.
