Veterans and current servicemen and women spoke of their experiences and sacrifice at a special event in The Forum today.

Treasured collections of wartime memorabilia were on show and the most important people, those who had been there, informed people about their contribution and the ultimate sacrifice comrades had made protect Queen and country.

The event came as flag raising ceremonies were held across the city and county on Monday in the lead up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

Brian Wilson, chairman of the Norfolk and Norwich Combined Ex Servicemen Association, which organised the event, said: 'Many of us have collected memorabilia so it is a chance for it go on show. It is also a chance for us to get together and have a laugh and to show a bit of comradeship.

'It is also a chance for the public to see what the veterans have done.'

As well as the exhibitions from the veterans the RAF, Army and Royal Navy were all recruiting at the event.

Mr Wilson said the day had been a success and there had been a lot of people talking, but he said they desperately needed young ex-servicemen to going veteran associations to ensure they continued.
