A church in Norfolk has revealed that rather than give something up for Lent it is going to try something different this year - and give more.

Parishioners in Cromer have signed up to a generosity challenge, entitled '40acts', created by the charity Stewardship.

The challenge, which is being backed by Cromer Parish Church with St Martin's, encourages everyone to carry out an act of kindness each day.

It began by handing out 'Love Heart' sweets on Wednesday. Throughout Lent '40activists' receive a daily email with their challenge and a thought from the day from a leading Christian. including Gogglebox vicar Kate Bottley.

Head of mission Simon Fenn said: 'Through simple acts of kindness like baking for a neighbour, sending anonymous gifts or cleaning up our street, we hope that this Lent we're able to give something back to our wonderful community.'
