The wheels on this bus used to go round and round, round and round.

But after years on the road taking passengers from A to B, it has been transformed in to a colourful play centre which is at the heart of a new rural enterprise.

Sisters Sarah Hughes-Wade and Rachel Hughes-Green are heading up the PlayBOKS venture in a seven-acre smallholding at their family home at The Firs, Wendling, near Dereham, with an aim of giving children the chance to 'go wild with their imagination.'

The double decker bus – which has been re-designed with the theme of a giant Indian elephant – was bought on eBay.

The top deck has been cleared to make an area for arts and crafts and also can be used for dancing during parties. The downstairs area's seats have all been given a new lease of life with colourful covers made from recycled materials.

PlayBOKS is getting its launch during half term next week when there will be a range of art and craft sessions from 1.30pm daily. Families will also be able to play in the fields.

The sisters aim to develop the project with a new orchard, outdoor play area, and an activity centre in a warehouse.

Sarah, 38, who is a governor at nearby Scarning School and has children Ella, 13, Eva 10, and Esme, one, said: 'It has taken a long time to come together and is quirky and unique and that is what we are about. This is my ideal job being creative and playing!

'We have got all this potential and we want to share it with the kids and it is a dream come true. It is a place for them to go wild with their imagination and we are all about natural play.'

She said it was a real family 'team effort' and her husband Matthew has done a lot of the work on the bus.

Rachel, 33, who is a Wendling parish councillor and has children Lilianna, six, and nine-month-old Tom, said: 'It is amazing to see it coming together. I feel we can open up what we have got and share it,'

The idea for the project began about four years ago when the sisters won 5,000 funding from an award scheme after putting together a feasilibity study for a children's activity centre 'with a twist'.
